Cabin by the Coast : A Home Rooted in Nature

In the picturesque coastal woodland of Aireys Inlet, a shipping container home stands as a beacon of sustainable design and thoughtful living.

Set against a backdrop of towering eucalypts and rare orchids, this unique home was designed to embrace its exquisite surroundings. Tamsin O'Neill and Tom Bodycomb, the creative minds behind Green magazine, sought to build a sanctuary that balances the rugged charm of the west coast with sustainable living principles.

The home’s design centers on its connection to nature, with massive windows and glazed doors offering sweeping views of the bushland. Inside, every detail has been considered to reflect the surrounding environment—including the lighting.

The bathrooms and living spaces feature our ceramic bowl sconce and dish sconce, in a series of earthy toned glazes such as Saltbush, Rivergum, and Storm. For additional contrast, the black Liquorice glaze was pulled from our archives to complement the black exterior of the cabin.

"The colours were what really drew me to the sconces. The house interior is intentionally dark to compensate for the large amount of glazing. It absorbs light and draws the eye out into the bush."
